Nuevas alturas en El Alto y espacios transformados

Resumen

La implementación del teleférico en la ciudad de El Alto transformó significativamente la dinámica urbana, produciendo procesos de articulación e interacción que trascienden la incorporación de una nueva infraestructura. Su presencia ha reconfigurado el paisaje y ha impulsado cambios económicos, sociales y culturales, generando nuevas interpretaciones dentro del imaginario colectivo de los grupos sociales que habitan —de manera permanente o estacional— los alrededores de las estaciones. La investigación corresponde al momento en que algunas de las líneas de los teleféricos comenzaron a operar mientras que otras se encontraban aún en construcción. Este artículo se centra en el panorama articulado por la más emblemática: el Jach’a Qhathu o Gran Feria, mejor conocida como Línea Roja. No obstante, dada la incidencia de las otras líneas, se incluyen también referencias a la Línea Azul con el objeto de ofrecer un retrato más completo del contexto estudiado. Las experiencias de las personas entrevistadas reflejan estas nuevas interacciones que, no obstante, no dejan de estar arraigadas en la identidad aymara. Sus testimonios muestran cómo la convivencia entre tradición y modernidad se resignifica y dinamiza con la llegada de este sistema de transporte por cable.
