Abstract

This research analyzes the survival conditions of urban trees in District 1 of El Alto, Bolivia, with an emphasis on pedestrian public spaces. Based on field observations conducted in various sectors of this district, physical, social, and administrative factors affecting the development and permanence of trees in urban areas were identified. The study adopts a qualitative-descriptive approach, recording environmental conditions, anthropogenic alterations, and characteristics of the immediate surroundings. Preliminary results reveal a high mortality and deterioration rate among the trees, associated with a lack of planning, maintenance, and public awareness. This study aims to contribute to the debate on green infrastructure and its role in building more livable, resilient, and sustainable cities in rapidly growing Andean urban contexts.
